“We engaged the Falk Ruvin Team to sell our home in northwest Mequon. They secured a buyer and helped guide us through a challenging negotiation. They also worked with us to find a new home that we recently moved into. Throughout both transactions, they showed great expertise.”
– Chris Eliopulos, Mequon
Welcome To The Neighborhood
On the beautiful western shores of Lake Michigan just north of Milwaukee on I43 is Mequon – the little city by the lake. In 2005, this picturesque suburb was named #19 in CNN’s Money Magazine’s 100 Best Small Cities in the United States. With majestic bluffs overlooking Lake Michigan, an abundance of countryside and green open spaces, relatively little crime, a highly-rated school district and low property tax rates, it comes as no surprise that real estate in this city is flourishing. Mequon offers both contemporary and classically built homes on spacious well-maintained lots with several private golf and country clubs nearby and access to major healthcare facilities.
Parkland ranges from nature reserves to playgrounds and spans hundreds of acres in 24 parks. The winding Milwaukee River flows through the city and residents can take advantage of both riverfront and lakefront water based activities. In addition, Mequon also offers an abundance of shopping opportunities from mainstream big box stores to unique boutiques and a variety of restaurants for every foodie.
What You Will Love
Mequon hosts a multitude of events throughout the year which contribute to many worthy foundations. Lionsfest is a carnival with rides and live music in June benefitting the Lion’s Club charities. The Rotarian’s Lobsterfest in October fundraises for their many local and international causes. Gathering on the Green is a multiple day festival featuring live musical acts under the stars to benefit youth education programs.
As well, there are many family-friendly community events like the Winter Frolic Festival which takes place at the Mequon Nature Preserve with sleigh rides, ice fishing, chainsaw carvings, bonfires, and more. Pommerntag is an outdoor festival celebrating the German culture in June. Taste of Mequon offers live music and an opportunity for local food vendors to showcase their specialities.
Be sure to check out the Lakeshore Chinooks, members of the Northwoods League, where the top college players display their talents to professional scouts in a collegiate summer baseball league.
Local Places We Love
For unique, fresh, and healthy meals at reasonable prices, head over to Café 1505. This adorable café serves locally-sourced farm to table food and the service is fast, friendly, and attentive. It will only take one visit before you become a regular. Too busy to stop by? No problem, their box lunches have you covered.
If you are in the mood for pizza, head over to Leonardo’s for an authentic New York style pie with tangy sauce, gooey cheese, and the perfect crust which manages to stay thin and non-greasy.
For fine dining, Mr. B’s – a Bartolotta Steakhouse – is where it’s at. A classic steak house is the perfect atmosphere to bite into a buttery, melt in your mouth steak and down a classic cocktail or fantastic wine.
When you’re ready to work off all that good eating, Virmond Park offers wooded areas for walking and wide open spaces for sports right next to gorgeous Lake Michigan. Two playgrounds, a newer one set in white sand and the other with a vintage jungle gym, merry-go-round, and slides are excellent activities for young children.
Want to exercise but don’t want to leave your furry family member at home? The Katherine K. Carpenter Dog Park is one of the best Milwaukee has to offer. With ample trails to explore, spacious grassy areas to play fetch, and streams for cooling down, your pooch will consider you a “dog’s best friend”.
Faye’s Boutique carries every season’s “must-haves” and great designer brands in women’s fashion. With amazing staff who will remember your name and offer fabulous suggestions, it comes as no surprise that they have made the Milwaukee A List finalists for Best Women’s Boutique for many years running.
Mequon properties are predominantly large single family homes in the range of $400K-$1.5M+ (with those along the lake fetching higher prices).
